Access and Nature Recovery improvements at Withymead Nature Reserve
Withymead Nature Reserve is a peaceful wetland oasis on the riverbank near Goring-on-Thames. This Mend the Gap project is improving access with a new boardwalk across the reedbeds, helping to overcome the barriers some groups have to accessing the National Landscapes. The nature reserve is located North of Goring and can be reached using the Ridgeway National Trail from Goring and South Stoke. There is parking for a small number of cars, but we would recommend that you visit the Withymead Nature Reserve website. The funding also allows for the delivery of six community events over two years, that aim to include wider audiences in the National Landscapes.
After the sucessful delivery of our first project at the Withymead Nature Reserve, we are now able to support them to further develop the wetland habitats onsite. Mend the Gap are funding the development of two new ponds and the dredging of a channel, once full Environment Agency permissions are in place. These latest enhancements will see an increase in the range of habitats available to wildlife.
